Equity market sustains momentum, gains N420bn

Trading activities on the floor of Nigerian Exchange on Thursday ended on a positive note, reporting an increase of N420 billion.

 

Market capitalisation of listed equity appreciated by 0.75 per cent to N56.730 trillion from N56.310 trillion reported the previous day.

 

The (NGX) All-Share Index concluded the trading session with a growth of 743.66 basis points  to settle at  100335.30 points  from 99591.64 reported the previous day.

 

The upbeat performance was driven by sustained investor interest in Transpower, MTN Nigeria, Dangote Sugar, Oando among others.

 

As a result, the year-to-date return advanced to an impressive 34.19 per cent as NGX printed 26 gainers against 33 losers.

 

A closer look at the market showed that Dangote Sugar and MTN Nigeria led gainers table, increasing by 10 per cent each to close at N50.60 and N201.30 per share, Transpower followed with 9.99 per cent to close at N351.30, Juli Pharmaceutical added 9.96 per cent to close at N4.97 per unit, Nascon gained 9.92 per cent to close at N47.65 per unit.

 

On the contrary, FTNCocoa and Guinness Nigeria Plc topped losers chart with 10 per cent each to close respectively at N1.53 and N45.90 per share.

 

Transcorps trailed with a loss of 9.95 per cent to close at N17.10 per share, Ikeja Hotel down by 9.93 per cent to close at N6.08 per share; Redstarex fell by 9.87 per cent to close at N3.38 per share.

 

Volume of activities declined by 138.239 million, representing 33.19 per cent as investors traded 554.716 million shares worth N17.731 billion in 9708 deals against 416.477 million shares cost N19.508 billion in 9338 deals.

 

Transactions in the shares of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria led market activities with 301.362 million shares valued at N5.650 billion, Sterling Bank followed with account of 33.320 million shares cost N150.784 million, FBNHoldings traded 23.211 million shares worth N773.912 million, United Bank for Africa exchanged 18.377 million shares worth N400.298 million while Zenith Bank exchanged 17.080 million shares valued at N583.927 million.
