The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recovered a stolen vehicle during routine enforcement at its RS2.1114 Isolo Unit Command, Lagos State.
The development is contained in a statement on Monday in Abuja by the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide.
Ogungbemide said patrol operatives intercepted a Toyota Sienna, ash in colour, with registration number LSD438GK on Saturday at about 5.11p.m.
He said the vehicle was stopped for a Vehicle Licence Violation after the driver failed to produce valid documents, prompting immediate impoundment under FRSC protocols.
“Subsequent checks revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen and the driver declared wanted.
“In a follow-up operation, the suspect was handed over in handcuffs to the Nigeria Police Force, Ajao Division, on Monday for further legal action,” he said.
He said the recovery highlighted the importance of routine patrols in uncovering criminal activities.
“What began as a simple traffic violation check led to the interception of a stolen vehicle.
“It demonstrates the vigilance, professionalism and uncompromising standards of FRSC personnel,” he said.
He highlighted the role of the National Vehicle Identification Scheme in enhancing vehicle traceability and crime prevention nationwide.
According to him, the scheme has enabled the identification, tracking and recovery of numerous stolen vehicles across the country.
He added that it had strengthened inter-agency collaboration, improved transparency in vehicle registration and curtabed operations of criminal syndicates.
Ogungbemide reiterated that enforcement extended beyond traffic compliance to national security, crime prevention and public safety.
“Motorists are urged to maintain proper documentation and cooperate fully during routine patrol checks,” he said.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, praised the recovery team’s ingenuity and reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to technology.
He said this included intelligence and strategic partnerships to safeguard life and property on Nigerian roads.
