The Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has expressed sadness over the road accident that claimed the lives of seven persons and injured several others in Okunchi, Adavi Local Government Area of the state.
Ododo who has been on a state assignment in China, while describing the death of the victims as a major blow for the community and the state, called for a review of emergency response facilities and services in the state.
A statement by the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Ismaila Isah, stated that the governor, while commiserating with the families of the victims, acknowledged the people’s hard work, especially due to the “prevailing peace and security that have encouraged people to go about their lawful businesses without fear.”
He, however, condemned reckless driving and carelessness by other road users that often lead to fatalities.
The governor commended the chairman of Adavi Local Government Area, Hon. Bashiru Okatengwu, for mobilizing first responders and emergency interventions to the scene of the accident.
He described their support to the victims and their families by members of the community as a display of love and solidarity in times of despair.
Ododo therefore called for a review of emergency healthcare facilities in order to ensure a more coordinated efforts in managing emergency situations.
