The Katsina government has begun the distribution of food items and monetary donation to 7,220 widows and less privileged women in the state.
Gov. Dikko Radda stated this during the inauguration of the food distribution exercise on Tuesday in Katsina.
He said the gesture was part of the state government’s social welfare programme, adding that each of the beneficiary would receive 25 kilogramme of rice and N10,000.
He said the government had so far conducted the exercise in Katsina, Kaita, Rimi and Batagarawa Local Government Areas of the state, as part of effort to support vulnerable persons in the society.
The programme, he said would restore dignity and hope as well as provide opportunities to the women, to enable them to thrive and contribute to the growth and development of the state.
The Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Ishaq Shehu-Dabai, said that 20 beneficiaries had been selected from each ward across the 34 local government areas of the state.
Also, Hadiza Yar’Adua, Commissioner for Women Affairs, commended the gesture, describing it as a testament to the inclusive governance championed by governor, who prioritised the welfare of women, children and the less privileged.
