Death is inevitable and has no respect for any socioeconomic status. In the words of Haruki Murakami, Death is not the opposite of life, but a part of it.
Unfortunately the dead cannot speak. Whether you like him or hate him, he was absolutely loyal to his Principal. Loyalty is a very rare virtue in our environment.
“If by my life or death I can protect you, I will.” – J.R.R. Tolkien. He took the bullets for PMB. He understood the true meaning of Power. As an avid reader and student of power and politics, he demonstrated attributes from the book “48 laws of Power”. He despised adulation of himself and understood laws for attaining power in life, business, and more.
His death at 67 years of age was indeed very painful to me. I did not know him personally and neither did I have the opportunity to meet him. However, he was a husband, a father and a best friend of 42/43 years to an introvert who is popularly known for sticking with old friends and relationships. His loyalty, so fierce and unwavering, makes my eyes water and heart ache.
A leader’s demise due to the complications of COVID-19 is ironical but we must believe it is the will of our Almighty God. Nobody is shielded from death. Coronavirus is a very deadly infection and has affected millions and claimed lives of thousands around the world. Sadly, Mallam Abba A Kyari is gone for ever. His trajectory path in life was an excellent one in spite of his short comings! The first most talked about Chief of Staff “COS” in Nigeria.
My take is that irrespective of who you are as a Nigerian, we should always invest in our communities and in our people. His death should serve as a push to build the new Nigeria of our dream. It should remind us all to be prepared to move Nigeria to the ‘real next level’ of being true citizens of Nigeria, who loves the country and are committed to making our systems efficient.
The rich now know what it is not to have good medical infrastructure, the powerful are now aware that man is not in control of death and the Politicians who loot at the detriment of the nation should realise that wealth accumulated may never be spent by them. Let this be our wake up call!
Adieu Mallam Abba Kyari! As for me he died a martyr and could be perceived as the sacrificial lamb on the COVID-19 alter for the unity, development and eradication of poverty in Nigeria. We should start looking inwards to develop our own country, its infrastructure and systems.
May Allah comfort the wife, children, people of Borno state, Mr President and all his associates.
Long live Nigeria!
