The Mining Cadastre Office (MCO) and the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) have formalised a strategic alliance to strengthen transparency and corporate governance in Nigeria’s mining and corporate sectors.
The collaboration was cemented on Tuesday when the director-general of the MCO, Engr. Obadiah Simon Nkom paid a courtesy visit to the Registrar-General of the CAC, Hussain Ishaq Magaji, SAN, at the Commission’s headquarters.
According to a statement by MCO Head of Press, Patrick Chika Osuji, both agencies exchanged commemorative plaques during the visit—symbolising a mutual commitment to a long-term partnership focused on improving regulatory oversight, operational transparency, and corporate compliance.
Engr. Nkom highlighted that the alliance aligns with the MCO’s ongoing reform agenda, which includes the successful digitisation of mineral title administration through the eMC+ system. He noted that partnering with CAC would allow both agencies to leverage technology and expertise to ensure seamless processes and greater accountability in mineral licensing and company registration.
“The MCO and CAC aim to leverage their respective strengths to drive efficiency, transparency, and good governance not just in the mining sector, but across corporate Nigeria,” the statement read.
The visit, it said, aligned with the MCO’s efforts to enhance its operations and services, building on its successes in digitising mineral title administration and improving revenue generation.
“By collaborating with the CAC, the MCO seeks to further streamline processes and promote compliance with regulatory requirements.
“The MCO’s eMC+ system has been recognised for its transparency and efficiency, and the organisation is committed to sharing its expertise with other agencies to drive sectoral growth and development,” it said
It further noted that the CAC is the primary regulatory agency responsible for incorporating and regulating companies in Nigeria and is critical in promoting transparency and good governance in the corporate sector.
Registrar-General Magaji underscored CAC’s readiness for the collaboration, revealing that the Commission had upgraded its facilities to incorporate artificial intelligence for more rigorous company screening and registration processes.
He described the visit as a significant step in building institutional synergy to enhance regulatory compliance and investor confidence.
Both institutions affirmed their shared vision of a more transparent and efficiently governed business environment, driven by innovation, cooperation, and a commitment to national development.
