In order to ensure that mining operators comply with guidelines of operations in the sector, toward ensuring the speedy diversification of the economy, the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development is currently touring facilities of some licensed operators. The aim is to ensure that the operators meet the target of completing the projects and commencing full operations.
Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Arc Olamilekan Adegbite who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Dr (Mrs) Oluwatoyin Akinlade disclosed this during their tour of Segilola Gold Project, Iperindo Osun State on Thursday.
In a statement, the minister said the visit was to confirm the company’s report on the level of work they have carried out on site. He expressed delight at the progress of work done, saying that government is committed to ensuring the success of operators.
The Permanent Secretary, Dr (Mrs) Oluwatoyin Akinlade said the Ministry is excited about the project, adding that its completion and commencement of full operations would drive the economic diversification agenda of the President Muhammadu Buhari Administration.
She assured of the Ministry’s continued and unwavering support, saying “our doors are always open to give the maximum support for speedy completion of the Project.”
Chief Executive Officer, Segilola Gold Project, Segun Lawson explained that his organisation has been thriving despite working in challenging conditions since the foundation of the facility was laid in March 2020. Mr Lawson disclosed that the Segilola Gold Project has been able to work in line with set rules, adding that compliance to rules and standard remained the watchword of the organisation.
He said as part of Corporate Social Responsibility, the Company has awarded scholarship to six indigenes of host community including students of Junior Secondary Schools, Senior Secondary School and tertiary institutions, adding, “we are very happy with the personnel and community where we operate.”
