N-HYPPADEC donates 45 power tillers, 1,250 safety jackets to farmers in Plateau

The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC), has donated 45 13-horse power tillers and 1,250 safety jackets to farmers in Plateau.

Alhaji Abubakar Yelwa, the Managing Director of the commission presented the items to the beneficiaries on Tuesday in Jos.

Represented by Mr Pam Davou, Acting Director Planning Research and Statistics of the commission, Yelwa said that the gesture aimed at supporting farmers in the state.

Yelwa said that the beneficiaries were largely drawn from communities that are housing N-HYPPADEC facilities in the state.

The managing director explained that the safety jackets would largely be distributed to the fish farmers in the state.

“As you are aware, N-HYPPADEC has been very effective in Plateau.

“We are doing a lot in the area of youth empowerment, education, health, security and today we are here providing succour to farmers.

“So, what we are doing today is to support our farmers with these items towards improving farming activities in the state,”he said.

Yelwa, who said that the beneficiaries would be in clusters, called on them to put the items into good use.

Earlier, Dr Elisha Yilkudi, the Permanent Secretary, Plateau Ministry for Agriculture, who commended N-HYPPADEC for the gesture, described it as timely.

He particularly described the gesture as collaborative efforts between the federal and state government towards addressing the manpower deficit in the agricultural sector.

“I want to commend you for giving things that are directly speaking to the needs of the people.

“As a state, we want to collaborate more, and in the course of doing this, many people will know what N-HYPPADEC is all about.
