The Bayelsa State Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), in collaboration with key stakeholders, on Thursday commemorated the 2024 World Day Against Human Trafficking.
The two-day awareness campaign featured a road walk and a series of outreach activities aimed at educating the public on the dangers of human trafficking and promoting community vigilance against the crime.
The event began with a road walk from Swali International Market to Bishop Dimieari Grammar School, Ovom, and drawing participation from several government agencies, Non-Governmental Organisations, media houses, and educational institutions.
Participating bodies included the Nigeria Immigration Service, DSS, Fire Service, Civil Defence Corps, National Human Rights Commission, FIDA, and various civil society groups such as the Do Foundation, 4S Juvenile Rehabilitation Centre, and the Lady Eunice Nnachi Foundation.
Schools such as Bishop Dimieari Grammar School, Government Science Technical College Swali, and Isaac Jasper Boro College of Education also took part.
Speaking on behalf of the Acting State Commander, Mr Fadewara Timiebiowei, NAPTIP’s Head of Public Enlightenment, Mr Wariebi Sambo, emphasised the dangers of human trafficking and urged students to serve as anti-trafficking ambassadors in their communities.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event featured goodwill messages from stakeholders, who commended NAPTIP’s continued efforts to combat trafficking and promote public awareness.
