NNPP Disowns Ibadan Opposition Summit, Dismisses Reports of Participation

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has distanced itself from the recent opposition parties summit held in Ibadan, insisting that it neither took part in the meeting nor authorised anyone to represent it.

National Chairman of the party, Dr Agbo Major, made the clarification during a world press conference in Abuja, where he described reports linking the NNPP to the gathering as misleading and inaccurate.

According to him, the party had no official presence at the summit and should not be associated with the coalition behind it.

“The NNPP, as a registered political party, wishes to categorically distance itself from the opposition parties summit recently held in Ibadan by the coalition group, as reported in sections of the media,” he said.

Dr Major emphasised that none of the party’s recognised leaders attended the meeting, nor was any individual delegated to represent the NNPP in any capacity.

He added that the appearance of certain expelled members at the summit should not be interpreted as participation or endorsement by the party.

“The presence of some notable faces among our expelled members must not be misconstrued as representing the NNPP in the coalition,” he stated.

The NNPP chairman also cautioned organisers of the coalition to properly verify individuals claiming affiliation with the party, warning against impostors seeking undue recognition.

“We urge the coalition leadership to be vigilant and ensure that individuals do not falsely use the NNPP’s name to gain relevance or advantage,” he said.

Dr Major reaffirmed the party’s commitment to preparations for the 2027 general elections, noting that its recently launched electronic membership registration drive has recorded encouraging progress nationwide.

“Our objective remains to build a credible, technology-driven political platform that truly reflects the aspirations of Nigerians,” he added.

Expressing confidence ahead of the elections, he described the NNPP as well-positioned for 2027 and invited like-minded politicians to join the party and contest for offices at all levels, including the presidency.
