The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp Ebonyi State Command has paraded five suspects arrested for various offenses in the state.
The Command announced that the suspects were arrested for peddling illicit drugs, stealing tricycles and sell in other states, stealing rods of different sizes from project sites among other offenses in the state.
Addressing Journalists during a parade exercise at NSCDC headquarters in Abakaliki, the State Commandant Mr Francis Nnadi who warned miscreants to leave the state or meet waterloo reaffirmed commitment of the command to increase surveillance and raid the state of all criminal elements.
The commandant who frowned at the level of crime and criminality especially among the youths in the state urged the citizens to always volunteer timely and credible information on the activities of criminals in their neighborhoods.
Nnadi disclosed that one of the suspects is a registered member of Scrap dealers who bought different sizes of rods stolen from Vanco junction and other construction project sites in the state.
According to him,one other suspect from Ohaukwu local government area of the state was arrested for having 56kg of Cannabis Sativa.
He said: “The suspect and his younger brother jointly sell the substance and since the family members have warned them severally to stop their illegal activity, they decided to hide the substance. So, when they came and asked for the cannabis, one of the brothers told them openly reminded him the family had asked for stop of such attitude, consequently refused giving it to him which led to a blood fight. Coincidentally, NSCDC officials were on patrol in that area and arrested him.
“We got credible information, swung into action and recovered irons and rods meant for government projects, on inquiry when we arrested his boy, Mr Samuel Nwambara, we found out that other things even the solar poles and panels that the government installed were recovered from his site.
“I sent my men to go and seal the site, my men were attacked, of course we had to do the needful .Eventually, when the real owner came he testified that he received the stolen items from an ‘engineer’ suspected to be in charge of government project.
“Imagine an engineer who was given a task of doing a project for the state selling the iron rods and materials for the projects, that is an economic sabotage. If there is nobody buying the materials from him, he will not do that; investigation is ongoing and we are going to get him and once we get him, be rest assured that he is going to have his own day in a court of competent jurisdiction,” the commandant added.
Responding, the suspect accused of buying stolen rods Samuel Nwambara disclosed that a government engineer identified as “Pascal”sold them to him as cut offs no more useful in the works at the project sites.
