The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) has trained 262 of its personnel on weapon handling, charging them to be disciplined and professional with the weapons.
This is contained in a statement by Kogi State Commandant of NSCDC, Mrs Esther Akinlade on Saturday in Lokoja.
Akinlade urged the officers to always uphold the ideals of the corps.
“You must demonstrate high sense of humour, discipline, and professionalism in your service to the nation after this successful round-up of the range classification exercise.
He noted that it was imperative for officers and men to acquaint themselves with the latest skills in weapon handling following the trend of attacks on security personnel, security formations, critical national assets and infrastructure.
“This necessitated the need for training and retraining of personnel on weapon handling,”she said.
The Commandant said that the personnel underwent rigorous and intensive training for six weeks after satisfying the basic forensic and medical requirements before embarking on a shooting range classification.
She added that the officers were drilled in conformity to arms training both on G3 rifle and the AK-47 rifle.
Akinlade said that there was a need for strict adherence to an acceptable standard of operation in the corps and warned against any act of misuse or conduct that negated the ethics of firearms.
She lauded the Commandant-General, Dr Ahmed Audi for putting in place policies and strategies for the corps to succeed.
