The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) on Monday in Ibadan conferred fellowship awards on 481 members at a ceremony in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the event formed part of activities for the 2025 NSE International Conference scheduled for Dec. 1 to Dec. 5.
NSE President, Mrs Margaret Oguntala, said the fellowship represents the highest membership tier and carries greater responsibility for professional leadership.
“Your elevation signifies distinguished service, outstanding competence, and impactful contribution to the engineering profession,” she said.
She reminded the awardees that they now form part of the Society’s strategic leadership forum whose decisions shape policy, standards, and national development.
“I urge you to adopt a policy-conscious mindset, seeing engineering as a driver of governance reforms, efficiency, and sustainable progress,” she added.
Oguntala warned that the Society can withdraw the fellowship where unethical conduct or professional misconduct is proven.
She said this policy reinforces NSE’s commitment to credible leadership and strict ethical and regulatory compliance.
“This fellowship is a trust, and the Society expects continuous ethical leadership and alignment with national development priorities,” she said.
Oguntala noted that Nigeria is at a critical stage where competitiveness and stability depend on strong policymaking and resilient infrastructure.
She said this reality makes engineering expertise indispensable across government and national planning.
NSE recognises that Nigeria’s challenges require coordinated, multidisciplinary policy responses,” she said, stressing the need for stronger alignment with national plans.
Earlier, Chairman of the Board of Fellows, Mr Maliki Kamila, said all 481 awardees were thoroughly screened and found worthy of elevation.
He urged them to see the honour as a call to provide more solutions to the nation’s pressing challenges.
The event featured the launch of the 2025 edition of the NSE magazine and the decoration of new fellows.
