Mrs Oluwakemi Awolola, the Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Enugu, has advised corps members to imbibe the core values of the scheme from the orientation camp.

Awolola said this on Friday at the swearing in of the 2095 corps members in the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream 2 deployed to the state for the one-year mandatory national service.

The coordinator, who gave the advice at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Awgu Local Government Area in Enugu State, said that the corps members comprised 829 males and 1,266 females.

Congratulating the corps members for successful completion of their undergraduate programmes, Awolola urged them to participate in all the activities in the orientation camp as indiscipline would not be tolerated.

“Assessment of your service year starts right from the camp, you must obey the rules and respect camp officials as indiscipline would not be tolerated.

“The NYSC orientation programme is designed to instill the core values of national service and adequately prepare you for significant responsibility you will face in the coming months,” she said.

The coordinator commended Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State for revamping the NYSC camp clinic and providing additional boreholes to enhance water supply in the environment.

Speaking, Gov. Mbah urged the corps members to contribute significantly to national development through various initiatives, including elections, anti-corruption campaign, health initiatives and environmental conservation efforts.

The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, said that the state government was committed in providing conducive environment for the corps members.

“In Enugu State, we are committed to supporting the NYSC and contributing to the sustenance of its gains.

“We have commenced the renovation of the orientation camp and providing critical infrastructure to ensure a conducive environment for your training,” he said.

Administering the oath of allegiance, the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Raymond Ozoemena, urged the corps members to adhere to instructions and shun all criminal activities.

Ozoemena, represented by Justice A. C. Ogbuabor, urged them to avoid anything that would extend their one year programme.

The Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Mr Uchenna Okolo, assured the corps members of adequate security in the camp.

“All the security agencies in Awgu are at alert at all times and the governor has put in place  proper arrangements in terms of security in the state,” he said.
