The director-general of Ododo School-to-School Initiative, Kogi State, Engr. Ubaid Chatta, has called on Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to establish a standard day and boarding secondary school in Okene Local Government Area to bridge the educational infrastructure gap in the area.
Chatta, who made the call in a statement, said Okene deserves a modern secondary institution comparable to renowned schools such as the Nigerian Turkish International College (NTIC), Barewa College, Zaria, and King’s College, Lagos.
He said the inability to secure a Federal Government secondary school in Ebiraland made it imperative for the Kogi State Government to take decisive steps towards establishing a world-class institution in the area.
“We strongly believe the Kogi State Government can convert one of our historic, older schools into a modern secondary school that meets today’s educational standards,” he said.
According to him, the absence of a higher institution in Okene Local Government Area remains a concern, especially when neighbouring Adavi and Okehi LGAs host institutions such as the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), the School of Engineering, Federal College of Education (FCE), Salem University and the School of Nursing and Midwifery.
Chatta argued that the establishment of a standard boarding and day secondary school in Okene would provide a much-needed educational hub for students across the state.
He also criticised the relocation of the College of Science and Technology during the administration of former Governor
