PDP: We won’t give up on Wike, others – Ologunagba

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday said it wouldn’t give up on Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and his camp within the party in spite of his endorsement of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State for the 2023 elections.

Addressing a press conference on the ongoing campaigns for the elections, National Publicity Secretary of the party, Debo Ologunagba, said the party has its robust mechanism for dealing with issues and utterances of the Governor will be subjected to the processes of the party.

He said, “The statement made by the Wike is because we are a party of law and order, we cannot just seat down and tell you that we are going to do this or do that, there is a process.

“The party will go through that process, but recognising that the ultimate goal is to reconcile every member of this party because of the higher calling to rescue this country.

“Even in Ukraine and Russia where there is war, they talk, so if they are talking why are you sure we are not talking and we believe in our capacity to resolve this issue in the larger interest of Nigerians and Nigeria.”

He also said reconciliation is not a hundred meter race and 24 hours in politics, saying it’s like a lifetime.

He noted that the reconciliation effort between the leaders of the party and the Wike camp is work in progress.

Ologunagba also stated that there were multiple channels of communications in the party’s constitution. “So, it is ongoing. We’re very hopeful, because we have a robust internal differences resolution mechanism. We can’t give up on hope because this party is PDP, not an individual party. So, we don’t give commands, we don’t give instructions, we negotiate.”

On the attack on the party’s presidential rally in Kaduna, the PDP spokesman said the APC have lost faith. “People are running away from them. There is a massive exodus from the party to the PDP and they can’t handle that. So, the evidences are there. This is like the last ditch of the effort; they’re coming to their wit’s end and that’s why they go into violence.

“There were allegations of individuals, the governorship candidate of APC in Kaduna, Sen. Uba Sani, that he orchestrated, planned and executed it, and there have been no denials. That should point to the fact that this individual is a person of interest. And that’s why we’re calling on the IG to invite him immediately for questioning because he has become a person of interest,” he added.
