Police arraign 33-year old woman over alleged assault

A 33-year-old woman, Adebiyi Seun, on Tuesday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged assault.

The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of assault and malicious damage.

The prosecutor, Insp Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Sept. 10 at about 7:00a.m at New Way Avenue, near Fountain School, Falegan in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendant assaulted the complainant, Abdulkadri Motunrayo, by slapping her on the face, forcefully removing her plait hair, leading to injury on her head.

Oriyomi said that the defendant malicious damaged one iPhone 13 pro max worth N730,000 and jewellery valued at N110,000, belonging to the complainant.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 186 and 363 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against her.

Counsel to the defendant, Mr Gboyega Abiola, urged the court to grant her bail, with a promise that she would not jump bail.

In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N75,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until Oct.16 for hearing.
