
The police on Thursday arraigned a 29-year-old man, Yakub Oguntosin, before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing 60 bags of rice valued at N3.9 million.
The defendant, whose house address was not provided, is facing a one-count charge of stealing.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, Insp Ayodele Adeosun told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in November 2024 at about 7.00.p.m, at Farasime via Apa area of Badagry, Lagos.
He alleged the defendant stole 60 bags of foreign parboiled rice valued N3,900,000 property of one Bankole Oluwaseyi, the complainant.
“The defendant who was a driver was paid to deliver the rice at Badagry but absconded with the rice.
“He was caught two months later, arrested and handed over to police for prosecution.”
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1,000, 000 with two sureties in the like sum.
Adekomaiya adjourned the case until April 2, for mention.
