The Ogun Police Command says it has arrested a 21-year-old butcher, Selim Ayodele, for allegedly stabbing his colleague, Ibrahim Wasiu, to death with a knife in the Alagbole area of the state.

The Command’s Spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen on Friday in Abeokuta.

According to Babaseyi, the arrest followed a prompt police response after the incident was reported at the Ajuwon Police Station on Oct. 18.

Babaseyi ‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‌explained that the incident happened when Ayodele had a disagreement with Wasiu, aged 26, and stabbed him to death with a knife at their workplace.

During the altercation, the suspect allegedly picked up a knife and stabbed the deceased in the left side of his chest before twisting the weapon.

“Preliminary investigations indicates that the deceased and the suspect had finished their day’s work at a cow meat-selling outlet when a misunderstanding arose over sweeping the floor.

“However, the victim was rushed to Life Hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival. His remains were deposited at Life Channel Private mortuary, Lanbe, Ajuwon, for autopsy,” he said.

Babaseyi said the suspect was in police custody as investigations continue ahead of prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun, CP Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to prompt response, thorough investigation, and the lawful prosecution of offenders.

He urged residents to exercise restraint, resolve disagreements peacefully and report criminal incidents promptly.
