
The Delta Police Command says it has arrested 23 suspects in separate operations following a raid in identified criminal hideouts, and brothels across the state.
Spokesperson for the command, SP Bright Edafe disclosed this to newsmen on Saturday in Asaba.
He said that operatives of the Department of Operations Buffalo Team, and the Okpanam patrol teams recovered large quantities of suspected illicit drugs, during a raid of identified black spots within Okpanam axis and the Asaba metropolis on Friday.
He said that acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Mr Yemi Oyeniyi, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Mr Muyiwa Adejobi, led operatives to targeted locations around Hausa Market, Okpanam.
According to him, 22 male suspects were arrested.
“Exhibits recovered include 72 bottles of CSC Codeine, 11 packets of Tramadol, quantities of Swinol, Canadian Loud, and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp,” he said
Edafe said that the suspects and exhibits have been handed over to the Special Enquiry Unit (SEU) for profiling and further investigation.
In a related development, the police spokesperson said that following a petition alleging snatching of a truck, operatives of Operation Safe Delta tracked and recovered a stolen HOWO truck with registration number KK/192 XA at Ifite-Awka, Anambra State.
He noted that the vehicle has been recovered and towed to Asaba, while efforts were ongoing to arrest fleeing suspects.
Moreso, he said that operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS), Warri on Friday, intercepted a tricycle during a stop-and-search operation along Esisi Road, Warri.
He added that a search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 13 nylon bags containing substances suspected to be hemp.
“A 57-year-old female suspect was arrested in connection with the exhibit.
“Investigation is ongoing to determine the source and intended destination of the drugs.” He said
The spokesperson said that the CP has urged residents to continue supporting the Police with credible information in the ongoing crackdown on crime across the state, while assuring that all suspects found culpable will be brought to justice.
