Raxio launches Côte d’Ivoire’s first Tier III data centre

RAXIO Group, Africa’s leading carrier-neutral Tier III data centre operator, has officially launched its state-of-the-art data centre, Raxio Côte d’Ivoire (CIV1), in Abidjan. This marks the company’s fifth data centre and its third launch this year, further expanding its pan-African footprint. CIV1 is Côte d’Ivoire’s first Tier III certified carrier-neutral and cloud-neutral facility, setting a new standard in the West African nation’s digital infrastructure.

Equipped with the latest technology, the facility can house up to 800 racks and deliver 3MW of IT power at full capacity. This cutting-edge centre is designed to meet the growing demand for data consumption and local content, making it a vital asset for businesses and digital users across Côte d’Ivoire and the wider West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU), which includes Benin, Burkina Faso, Senegal, and other regional economies.

Robert Mullins, CEO of Raxio Group, emphasised the strategic importance of the launch: ‘Abidjan is an ideal location for businesses across the region to co-locate their critical infrastructure. We are proud to play a key role in Côte d’Ivoire’s digital growth, further enhancing the country’s status as a regional hub.’

The data centre, located in the Village of Innovation and Technology (VITIB), is situated along key fibre routes, providing seamless domestic and international connectivity. With six major fibre providers supplying the facility, Raxio CIV1 also hosts the country’s Internet Exchange Point (CIVIX), facilitating low-cost interconnection of local and international traffic in a carrier-neutral environment.

Sustainability at the core

In addition to its technological advancements, Raxio CIV1 integrates renewable energy sources and environmentally efficient practices. The facility was designed to achieve exceptional Power Usage Efficiency (PUE) ratios, making it one of the most sustainable data centres in Africa. Raphael Konan, General Manager of Raxio Côte d’Ivoire, highlighted the company’s commitment to sustainability: ‘Our data centre is a prime example of how we can build infrastructure that not only supports digital transformation but does so in an environmentally responsible way.’

A growing pan-African network

The launch of Raxio CIV1 signals the company’s continued expansion across Africa. Following the opening of its first data centre in Uganda in 2021, Raxio has rapidly extended its reach to Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and now Côte d’Ivoire, with new facilities set to open in Angola and Tanzania soon.

Raxio’s focus on building high-quality data infrastructure is critical as demand for data centre capacity continues to rise across the continent. This growth is driven by local enterprises, public sector organisations, and global technology companies, including hyperscale cloud service providers and mobile network operators. Raxio’s strategy aims to address the sub-Saharan connectivity gap, ensuring Africa’s digital future is built on a solid and sustainable foundation.
