The Sector Skills Council for Building in Nigeria celebrates the official admission of Nigeria into the WorldSkills International, a global
organization dedicated to promoting vocational training and skills development. This milestone marks a significant step in Nigeria’s efforts to enhance its technical and vocational education and training (TVET) system. It also demonstrates the success of the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) and the country’s commitment to revitalizing its TVET system Nigeria’s membership which was formalized during the WorldSkills General Assembly held in Lyon, France on September 9, 2024 implies that she will participate in its first international skills
competition at the Championship in 2026.
The membership also opens up opportunities for its youth to participate in international skills competitions, gain exposure to global best practices, and develop their skills in various trades and occupations. .
The President, Sector Skills Council for Building in Nigeria – Bldr. Samson Ameh Opaluwah expressed delight at Nigeria’s admittance into WorldSkills International. He averred that the achievement clearly demonstrates that the diligent entrenchment of the NSQF would no doubt provide our youth with the opportunities as well as the skills required to succeed in the global economy.
Ultimately, this sets the stage for export of skilled labour from Nigeria to needy nations thereby enhancing earnings for the nation. The Sector Skills Council for Building further appreciates and salutes the crucial role played by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the Honourable Minister of Education and the team that worked tirelessly to attain this status.
