Werder Bremen have confirmed that Nigerian forward, Victor Boniface, will undergo knee surgery today, January 10, a development that effectively rules him out for the rest of the 2025-2026 season.
Victor Boniface, 25, who is on loan at Werder Bremen from fellow Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, has been sidelined since December after picking up the injury. Bremen said the loan agreement with Leverkusen will remain in place until the end of the season despite his prolonged absence.
Boniface had featured 11 times in the league for Bremen before the setback, providing two assists and gradually finding his rhythm before the injury halted his campaign.
Elsewhere, Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey is attracting strong interest from Italy, with Serie A heavyweights Inter Milan monitoring his situation closely.
Bassey has been a standout performer for Fulham since his move from Dutch giants Ajax in 2023. Comfortable at centre-back and left-back, the Nigeria international is now widely regarded as one of the Premier League’s most reliable defenders.
Reports suggest Inter is keen to strengthen its back line and has identified Bassey as a potential target. However, Fulham are reluctant to allow him to leave during the winter transfer window, with any potential move more likely to be considered in the summer when a suitable replacement can be secured.
Bassey is currently away on international duty with Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations, alongside Fulham teammates Alex Iwobi and Samuel Chukwueze.
