Zamfara Gov’t vows to revoke underperforming contracts

Governor of Zamfara state Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar has issued a deadline to the company handling the construction of Magami-Dankurmi-Bagega-Anka road, Broni Brono, to complete the construction work of the road before December 2017 or face revocation.

The Governor gave the warning on Thursday, at a meeting with the management of the company at Government House, Gusau.

He expressed concerned over the delay in executing the project, despite release of funds to the contracting firm.

It could be recalled that, during his last visit to the project site, Governor Yari warned the company to be mindful of time stipulated in the contract specifications when he noticed the slow pace of progress.

According to the governor, there was no excuse to delay the project, considering the improvement of security in the area and reasonable amount of funds given to the company, hence the need to complete the project according to specifications.

“If by December this year, there is no satisfactory improvement on the project, there would be no option than to revoke the contract,” he said.

The Governor said he desires to complete all projects awarded by his administration before leaving office.

In a related development, Governor Yari expressed dismay over the slow pace of work in the construction of N4.3 billion naira Dauran – Birnin Magaji – Kaura Namoda road project. Describing the shortfall as a result of “lack of seriousness by the contractor handling the project,” Yari warned that if the pace remains slow, his administration will take action against the firm.

He blamed the state Ministry of works and transport supervising the road project for lack of commitment and threatened to revoke the contract.

It may be recalled that the project for the construction of the 61 km road was awarded to the company at the cost of Four point Three Billion(4.3) with 60% down payment was flagged off in December last year by the Senate President Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki with a one year deadline.

This is the third time the Governor issued warning to the company to ensure speedy completion of the contract with quality job.
