How to Sustain Late Justice Moses Bello’s Legacy – Governor

The Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello yesterday called on Nigerians to sustain the indelible legacy of Hon. Justice Moses Abu Bello, the former president of the FCT Customary Court of Appeal who died on September 2, 2021 after a brief illness.

Governor Bello, who described Justice Moses Bello as a principled advocate of the law, called on Nigerians to sustain his legacies by emulating his multiple virtues which distinguished him while he lived.

“One thing that is known to all of us about Justice Bello is that he was accommodating, relating with Muslims and Christians without discrimination and never forgot the culture of Ebiraland and her people,” the governor said, adding that “Justice Bello lived his life for the voiceless and downtrodden therefore, the most of all respects we can pay to him is to imbibe the elegant virtues the Jurist stood for.”

The governor who made the point during the commendation service convened by family and friends in honor of justice Bello at Christ the King Catholic Church, Okene, Kogi State, described the late Justice Bello was a top-flight legal officer, mentor and leader to a generation of members of the legal circle in the country.

A statement made available to our correspondent by Mr Onogwu Muhammed, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, quoted the governor as saying that “the late legal icon left an indelible mark,” and enjoined the family to keep the flag of the late legal icon flying as a way of preserving his legacies and assured them of his support at all times.

The statement said, Governor Bello who was accompanied by his Chief of Staff, Pharm Jamiu Abdulkareem Asuku and other top government functionaries noted that late “Justice Bello’s wise counsel contributed to the great success of the administration.”

Governor Bello described the late Justice Moses Abu Bello as a legal giant in the law practice and advocacy across the country and beyond, while he was also a respected community leader who served the people with the fear of God.

Justice Moses Bello was the pioneer President of the Customary Court of Appeal, FCT-Judiciary, a position he occupied for 25 years before his transition to glory at the age of 68.

The governor said: “Late Justice Bello was a principled advocate of the law. A great man in legal practice who became President of the FCT Customary Court of Appeal at the age of 39; in fact, he was an authority in the judicial practice in Nigeria.

Among other dignitaries at the service were the representatives of the Senate President, Speaker, Federal House of Representatives, Senators Yakubu Oseni of Kogi Central, Jibrin Isah Echocho of Kogi East and Smart Adeyemi of Kogi Central. Others are the Accountant-General of Kogi State, Jibrin Momoh, Auditor-General of the State, Yusuf Okala and the Ag Chairman of Kogi All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Bello among others.

The remains of late Justice Moses Bello was laid to rest on Saturday at his residence, Inozomi, Okene, Kogi State according to Christian rites.
