A 15-year-old boy tragically lost his life after being accidentally shot by his father on their farmland in Iye Ekiti, Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, confirmed the incident, which occurred during routine farming activities.
According to police findings, the father—whose identity has not been disclosed—had brought a firearm to the farm to protect crops from recurring monkey invasions.
While on the farm, he reportedly spotted movement in a tree and, believing it to be a monkey, opened fire.
Tragically, the movement was caused by his son, who was in the tree at the time and was fatally struck by the bullet.
The boy was confirmed dead at the scene.
The father is said to be in police custody as investigations continue.
