Trump warns of intense conflict following Israeli strikes on Iran

United States President Donald Trump has warned of massive incoming conflict in the Middle East as Israel carries out a military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities. Trump on Thursday night said he would “love to avoid the conflict” and suggested Israel not pursue the plan, though just hours later, Israel carried out intense airstrikes on Iran.

“I want to have an agreement with Iran. We’re fairly close to an agreement … I’d much prefer an agreement,” the US president said.

“As long as I think there is an agreement, I don’t want them [the Israelis] going in because I think that would blow it; it might help it actually, but it also could blow it,” Trump added.

While the Iranian side was expecting to secure a nuclear deal through negotiations, the recent events and deadlock in the talks raised fears in Israel that the Islamic Republic was buying more time to build nuclear weapons.

The attack on the Iranian sites has somehow jeopardised the entire nuclear deal, and it remains to be seen whether and if Iran agrees to sit down again to discuss the future negotiations.

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s fears had finally come true as he kept on forcing the regime to avoid negotiations with the United States and pushed for nuclear enrichment. The Iranian side would surely be considering its options after recent events; these attacks, according to Khamenei, will only strengthen the resolve of the Islamic Republic.

Meanwhile, reacting to the Israeli attacks on Iran, Russia, China, North Korea, and Saudi Arabia have officially denounced the attacks.

China: “The Israeli aggression on Iran is a serious violation of international law and a threat to regional stability. We urge all parties to show restraint.”

Saudi Arabia: The Israeli attacks on Iran, calling them a ‘clear violation’ of international laws.

Jordan has said it will not allow its airspace to be used for war by Israel.
