The Director General of the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office (MCO), Engr. Obadiah Simon Nkom on Monday, called on officers of the Agency to abide by the code of ethics of the civil service which emphasises loyalty, secrecy, discipline and efficiency among others.
Engr Nkom, who made the call during a meeting of staff of the agency, in Abuja, said staff must conduct themselves in line with the provisions of the relevant laws and Public Service Rules.
The Director General, who was president of the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society said: “The reason I want you to sign the forms is to ensure Document Security and for you know that oath of secrecy been administered to every one of you is in line with protection of Security Documents, so you all need to be careful of how you handle official documents’.
He further charged staff to pay more attention to their duties and not engage in conducts that contradicts the ethics of work which can attract severe disciplinary measures.
Engr. Nkom directed that every Officer should collect Declaration of Assets’ forms, complete them and submit the forms to the appropriate quarters as required.
He said, “Ignorance is no excuse and you all need to familiarise yourselves with the ethics of service, making sure that you did not derail so that you don’t disappoint your employers”.
The Director, Human Resource and Finance, MCO, Mr. Jacob Ayansola and Deputy Director, Administration, Mr. Abraham Oloruntoba discussed work ethics and other civil service rules, after which the Director, Legal Services, Barrister Carol Ojukwu administered the Oath of Secrecy.
The Director General however allowed for a short session of interaction between the Management and the entire staff which he said would foster understanding and cooperation.
