Boko Haram: Borno Communities Recount Ordeal, Stress Citizens' Engagement – THISDAYLIVE

A devastating assault on the Bassa community in Shiroro Local Government Area, Niger State, has resulted in the tragic loss of at least 20 lives, with 10 youths beheaded by suspected Boko Haram militants on Friday morning. The attack targeted villagers who had returned to collect essential items after a previous attack.

The brutality of the attack has sparked widespread condemnation, with Senator Mohammed Sani Musa, representing Niger East senatorial district, describing the incident as “barbaric and inhuman.” The attack comes on the heels of a previous incident three weeks ago, in which bandits killed seven security agents and kidnapped approximately 150 people in Kuchi village, leaving the community deserted.

The latest attack highlights the ongoing terror and violence perpetrated by Boko Haram in the region, with the state government’s silence on the matter leaving the community in shock and fear. The beheadings serve as a grim reminder of the sect’s brutality, as they seek to assert control over the ancestral lands of the villagers.
