WIM, Nasarawa govt collaborate against gender-based violence, to validate Referral Handbook today

 

Women In Mining in Nigeria (WIMIN) in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs, Nasarawa State, announces the upcoming coordination and validation meeting which is scheduled for 9am today May 24, 2024 at the Children’s Home, Lafia, Nasarawa State.

A statement from the organization said: “As part of our project titled, “Catalyzing Change: Eliminating Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Nasarawa State, Women in Mining in Nigeria (WIMIN), in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development (MWASD), Nasarawa State, is pleased to announce our upcoming Coordination and Validation Meeting.”

“The meeting aims to strengthen collaboration among all stakeholders working on sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in Nasarawa State and to validate the Referral Handbook for it’s adoption.”

The event, which is significant for the change that it will trigger, will bring together relevant stakeholders, including representatives from various organizations and mining companies operating within Nasarawa State.

“The primary objective of this meeting is to create an open forum where invited stakeholders can share relevant and innovative contributions to collaboratively tackle the menace of SGBV, develop a strengthened referral pathway for response, and support the adoption of the Referral Handbook in Nasarawa State.”

“The adoption of this handbook as a state level document marks a crucial step in addressing and mitigating issues of sexual and gender-based violence within our communities. We believe that the collective insights and contributions from this validation meeting will enhance the effectiveness and implementation of the handbook, ensuring it serves its purpose efficiently,” Dr. Engr. Janet Adeyemi, President,  WIMIN.

The meeting will provide an essential platform for collaboration, allowing stakeholders to discuss the handbook’s content, propose modifications, and ensure it comprehensively addresses the needs and challenges faced by those impacted by SGBV in Nasarawa State.
