The Bauchi State government has begun validation of a baseline survey to accelerate revitalisation of technical colleges in the state.
The exercise organised by the Bauchi Ministry of Education attracted critical stakeholders in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector in the state.
Prof. Simon Madugu, Special Adviser to Gov. Bala Mohammed on TVET, stated this at the inauguration of the exercise, on Wednesday in Bauchi.
He said the baseline study would provide the information needed to revive technical and vocational education in the state.
Madugu said that TVET is being recognised as a key driver of socio-economic growth and technological development.
He lamented that vocational and technical colleges had not received the attention they deserved for many years.
Madugu said that he presented a comprehensive memo to the governor for the transformation of TVET, and the overall revitalisation of technical education.
“The governor approved the proposal promptly, demonstrating his commitment to improving technical education in the state,” he said.
Madugu said the study covered all government technical colleges, to generate accurate data and analysis that would guide evidence-based policies and interventions.
According to Madugu, the findings will strengthen technical colleges and improve the quality of technical education in the state.
The Commissioner for Education, Malam Abdulkadir Ibrahim, described the effort as a major step towards improving TVET education in the state.
He commended the initiative and pledged support to ensure its successful implementation.
Ibrahim urged stakeholders to work towards repositioning the technical education sector to achieve academic excellence.
He expressed optimism that strengthening technical education would improve opportunities for young people and future generations.
“Technical and vocational education is the answer. It will equip our children with practical skills enabling them to become self-reliant and create jobs for others..
“Our children have the talent; they only need proper guidance,” Ibrahim said.
The workshop was attended by the officials of the ministry, and principals of selected technical colleges across the state.
