The vacation FCT High Court today was presided over by Justice Nwosu Iheme in a case filed against popular YouTuber, blogger and self proclaimed freedom fighter, Mr. Martins Vincent Otse, known as VerydarkMan, operating on different social media platforms.
However, in today’s court proceedings, the plaintiff counsel in Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin, who, through the Church Representative in certain Mr. Christsantus Umealakei, sought the standstill of today’s court proceedings till 11.30am, was seriously opposed by VerydarkMan counsel in person of one Mr. Ademola Oyedodun esq., who opposed the standdown application and then applied for a cost of $200,000 against prophet Jeremiah and also requested from the court that further court processes in counterclaim and motion for VerydarkMan injunction against Prophet Jeremiah should be served on Prophet Jeremiah Church Representative present in court.
The presiding judge refused the VerydarkMan counsel application for cost and the request to serve the court process on the church representative present in court and instead returned the case to the CJ of FCT High Court for reassignment to the Regular FCT High Court for determination. However, the status quo order in this case still exists.
Moreso, the highlights of today’s court proceedings are that in recent court processes and documents filed before the court, an allegation of forgery has been made and imputed against VerydarkMan, as prophet Jeremiah Omoto fufeyin counsel in further court processes filed chronicles and shows that the purported church receipts of VerydarkMan alluded to by VerydarkMan that he used to buy certain church and spiritual items from prophet Jeremiah church are actually forged.
The new court documents show a disclaimer letter from Christ Mercyland Church, which disclaims and further shows that the receipts being paraded by VerydarkMan are not just fake but altered to confer on him a possible defense in this matter. However, a look at the receipts and original invoice in the accounting records of Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin Church will reveal that there are sharp discrepancies in the document being paraded by VerydarkMan.
The said receipts of VerydarkMan look altered, figures mutilated and dates altered in this regard. Speaking on this to the press, Counsel to Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin, Ihensekhien Samuel Junior, notes that steps are being taken to ensure VerydarkMan is fully investigated, with a possibility to arraign him soon over these allegations in this regard.
The court today, however, adjourned indefinitely.
However, according to the statement of claim filed by Prophet Jeremiah’s lead counsel and lawyer, in July 2024, the claimant chronicled the various alleged libellous Facebook and social media publications made against him by VerydarkMan.
The plaintiff lamented that the defamatory contents caused him incalculable damage and brought him to ridicule among members of his church and business partners who are spread across the globe. In a case of alleged libel and defamation, Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyin accused VerydarkMan of operating on different social media platforms and portraying him in bad light.
In court processes dated July 2014, the plaintiff said, “The defendant has posted several cyberbullying and libel videos in which a significant number of them are defamatory to the personality of the plaintiff.”
To underscore the amount of pain the alleged libellous posts had caused him, the plaintiff lawyer said his client has “family members, church members and friends who are active on social media and brought his attention to the several defamatory posts against him by the defendant through vdm Facebook and other social media platforms.”
He noted that although some of the alleged posts are on vdm Facebook and social media , there exist others that he intends to tender before the court at trial.
