Yusuf Buhari, son of Nigeria’s late former president Muhammadu Buhari, has emerged as the winner of the All Progressives Congress House of Representatives primary for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’adua Federal Constituency in Katsina State.

Yusuf Buhari secured 6,386 votes to defeat his opponent, Auwal Daura, who polled 322 votes during the primary election conducted on Saturday.

The exercise was held across the three local government areas of Sandamu, Daura and Mai’adua and was described by party officials as peaceful and transparent.

A supervising official, Ibrahim, said the outcome reflected the wishes of party delegates in the constituency.

“Yusuf Buhari’s overwhelming victory reflects the enduring political influence and goodwill associated with the Buhari name in the constituency and across the state,” he said.

The constituency has 21,855 registered voters, while 6,837 delegates were accredited for the primary. A total of 6,708 votes were cast.

With the victory, Buhari is expected to represent the APC in the 2027 general elections for the federal constituency seat.
