Dear Esteemed Members of the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS),
As we approach the 60th Annual International NMGS Conference in Abuja, I humbly seek your support to serve as a Council Member of our esteemed society. With my extensive experience in structural geology, geophysics, leadership training, and sustainable resource exploration, I am committed to advancing NMGS and its objectives.
My Vision & Commitments:
My vision is built on five core pillars:
1. Enhancing Professional Development: Promoting continuous education, training, workshops, and mentorship programs to empower young professionals. This will equip our professionals with global best practices, ensuring they remain competitive in an evolving industry.
2. Innovation & Collaboration: Foster partnerships with industry stakeholders to drive innovation in mining and geoscience, enhancing sector growth through cutting-edge technologies. This will bridge the gap between research institutions and the mining sector for innovative solutions through Strengthening Industry-Academia Collaboration.
3. Policy Advocacy: Advocating for Sustainable Resource Management by supporting policies that ensure responsible exploration, mining, and environmental conservation practices. This will strengthen our role in shaping mineral development policies by engaging actively with government agencies, relevant National Assembly Committees, to ensure that NMGS remains a leading voice in Nigeria’s mining and geoscience sector.
4. Improving NMGS Visibility & Influence: Strengthening partnerships with government and international organizations for greater impact. An example is pushing for the implementation of a draft Framework for 10 Strategic Ways International Union of Geological Sciences (UGS) can intervene to improve geoscientists and geosciences in Africa, that was drawn during our 2024 engagement with them at Kenya.
5. Encouraging Technological Integration: Promoting the use of advanced geoscientific tools for improved exploration and development.
I am committed to serving with integrity, dedication, and innovation to move NMGS forward. Together, let us transform our profession and build a more vibrant and influential society that contributes significantly to Nigeria’s economic diversification and benefits all members.
