In order to ensure hitch-free management and operation of the electronic Mining Cadastre (eMC+) system, the Mining Cadastre Office (MCO) has concluded the training of technical and administrative staff who will operate the electronic Mining Cadastre (eMC+) system at the headquarter and in the six geo-political zones of the country.

The Head of Press at the MCO, Folasade Fatoke who confirmed the development to our correspondent in a statement on Thursday, quoted the Director-General of the MCO, Engr Simon Obadiah Nkom as saying that ‘the training is to ensure professionalism of staff who will manage the electronic Mining Cadastre platforms,’ adding that the MCO is determined to ensure that all applications for mineral titles are attended-to, in line with global best practices.

According to the statement, ‘the migration to electronic mineral title administration is in line with reforms of Government to put in place processes that will ensure ease of doing mining business in the country.’ This, the MCO said, is being achieved through the eMC+, adding that apart from easing the application process, the eMC+ will strengthen the confidence of investors through transparent processes, accountability and administrative efficiency of the MCO.

‘The Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office has taken the final phase of the staff-training on electronic mining cadastre to the Six Geo-Political Zones of Nigeria as a final step in the preparation for migration to online mining cadastre system,’ the statement said.

While explaining that the training aims to update staff with the process of online web-based mineral title administration and management in line with international best practices, the statement said the system migration is being executed in partnership with Mineral Sector Support for Economic Diversification (MinDiver) Project.

The statement said: ‘The final phase of the training commenced on Monday, March 8th and ended on Friday March 19th, 2021, at the Digital Bridge Institute, Utako, Abuja,’ adding that the training also included intensive coaching of zonal staff on eMC+ User Procedures.

While saying that ‘electronic Mining Cadastre system has been successfully implemented in some countries,’ the statement said the eMC+ is vital for the online application process. ‘It is in view of the strategic importance of eMC+ that the training was embarked upon for the MCO staff at the headquarters and the six geo-political zones for the expertise needed to take the Agency and the system to the next level,’ the statement said, adding that in the coming weeks, eMC+ training would be taken to the North Central, North West and North East Zones respectively.
