The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has assured Nigerians of continued stability and coordinated leadership within the Ministry of Defence as the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, attends the 2025 Dubai International Airshow with the full approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a press release issued on Thursday by Enderline Chukwu, assistant director, information & Public Relations in the ministry, Matawalle addressed public concerns over the absence of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, the Chief of Defence Staff, General O.O. Oluyede, and Minister Badaru during a period of heightened insecurity.
He stressed that their engagements abroad are official, strategic, and fully sanctioned by the President.
“Minister Badaru’s official engagement abroad does not diminish our sensitivity or response to the current security situation at home. Our combined efforts will ensure that we continue to address these challenges effectively,” Matawalle said.
He explained that the Dubai Airshow is a major global forum for defence, aerospace, and space industries—an opportunity for Nigeria to strengthen international partnerships, showcase advancements in defence technology, and engage in high-level strategic discussions.
According to the Minister of State, the Nigerian delegation’s participation underscores the nation’s commitment to global defence cooperation.
“Nigeria remains an active and responsible participant in international defence discussions and collaborations,” he noted.
Addressing the ongoing concerns over the recent abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State, Matawalle reaffirmed the government’s determination to secure their safe release.
“As I mentioned previously, I immediately condemned the abduction and called for our security agencies to coordinate their efforts for the safe return of the students. Our strategies are in place, and we are in constant communication with the relevant authorities to facilitate their safe release,” he reiterated.
Matawalle emphasized that his presence in the country ensures continuity of operations within the Ministry while Minister Badaru is away.
“Rest assured, we are doing everything possible to ensure the swift and safe return of the students,” he said, adding that the ministry’s two-minister structure enhances operational resilience during official travel.
He further confirmed that Minister Badaru will join the ongoing security efforts upon his return.
“We remain fully committed to the safety and security of all Nigerians,” he assured.
