Just in: Super Eagles Head Coach, Finidi George, resigns

Finidi George has resigned as the head coach of the Super Eagles.

Finidi was recently appointed coach of the Nigerian Super Eagles team.

His resignation came after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced that it would appoint a foreign coach to assist him in carrying out his job.

The NFF and the Minister for Sports summoned Finidi to a meeting earlier this week after he lost to the Benin Republic in the ongoing World Cup Qualifiers, denying Nigeria a smooth sail to securing a place in the World Cup.

George, a former Nigerian international and member of the iconic 1994 Super Eagles squad that won the nation’s second African Cup of Nations title, took over as head coach last month.

The NFF had confirmed the search for a foreign technical adviser following a poor run in the WCQ.

No official statement has been released by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to validate the story.

Finidi George had yet to confirm his resignation.

The 53-year-old was appointed last month ahead of the World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and the Benin Republic.
