Kano Council Bosses Get Certificates

Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) on Thursday presented certificates of return to the newly elected chairmen of local government councils.

The occasion took place at the commission’s headquarters.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) swept the 484 councillorship and 44 chairmanship seats.

The certificates came 17 days after the election, apparently due to the death of Ali Namadi who was elected chairman of Bebeji local government council.

Namadi died the day after the poll result was announced -the initial date slated for presentation of certificates.

Addressing the council chiefs, chairman of the commission, Professor Garba Ibrahim Sheka said following their victories at the polls, it was a duty upon the commission to present certificates of return to them.

“We are here to present a certificate of return to each of the 44 local government chairmen, their deputies and 484 councillors duly elected on January 16, to run their offices for the next three years,” he said.

Sheka admonished the council leaders to remain committed in leading their people, by initiating programmes that have direct bearing on the grassroots.

Responding on behalf of the elected, the chairman of Minjibir local government, Alh Saleh Ado Minjibir, appreciated Kano state government, the commission and other stakeholders for making the election a success.

A statement by the commission’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Dahiru Lawan Kofar Wambai, said the council leaders gave their assurance “to render selfless service to the electorate,” to justify the confidence given them.
