A 32-year-old man, John Okoh, on Thursday appeared before a Wuse Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obtaining N1 million under false pretences.
The defendant was brought before Magistrate Amiru Sanusi on the charges of criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal misappropriation.
According to the prosecutor, Mr E. A. Nnamani, the defendant committed the offences sometime in 2024 within the Wuse Magisterial District.
He told the court that the defendant obtained the sum of N1 million from the complainant, Air Commodore U.M. Silvanus (Rtd), under the guise of buying Iron rods for him, but failed to do so.
“The defendant converted the money to his personal use,” he said.
Nmamani said that the offences contravened Sections 312, 322 and 309 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
The magistrate admitted him to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum..
He ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and their addresses be verified by the court.
The court adjourned the matter until April 1 for hearing.
