Mines ministry to convene Nigeria-China Investment Forum at China Mining Expo

The Ministry of Mines and Steel Development will convene Nigeria-China Mining Investment Forum at the China Mining Expo, one of the world’s largest mineral investment, cooperation and trading platforms covering the entire solid mineral value chain, including geological surveying, exploration development, mining rights and mineral trading, mineral processing and smelting techniques, mining equipment and services.

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Abubakar Bawa Bwari will lead the Nigerian delegation to the China Mining Congress and Expo scheduled to hold from 23rd to 25th September, 2017, at the Meijiang Convention in Tianjin, China.

Mrs. Iliya Rhoda Ishaku of Nigeria’s Ministry of Mines and Steel Development disclosed to our correspondent that the conference will also provide government officials, industry leaders and experts from both Chinese and foreign mining industries with in-depth dialogues on questions related with the mining industry.During the conference, the Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development will deliver an address at one of the main congress sessions as well as at the Nigeria-China Mining Investment Forum that is organised by the Ministry,” she said adding that the Forum is meant to provide a platform for interaction between Nigerian and Chinese investors in the mining industry.

The Forum will provide platform to showcase to potential Chinese investors the investment opportunities in the mining sector in Nigeria and existing incentives and enabling legislations.  Government officials and companies of the two countries will network to review existing areas of cooperation and explore new areas of cooperation.

The objectives of Nigeria’s participation at the China conference include among others to re-affirm Nigeria’s economic policy priority, which focuses on the diversification of Nigeria’s revenue base by repositioning the mining sector for greater productivity, to showcase to potential investors the investment opportunities in the Nigerian mining sector and the existing incentives and enabling legislations, to take advantage of the attendance of key makers and influencers in the industry from all China to strengthen bilateral relationship
between Chinese central and regional governments as well as ensure robust tracking of the competitive activities of other mining countries towards identifying ways through which Nigeria can improve the marketability and
competitiveness of our mining industry.
