Minister laments lack of investment in creative, tourism sectors

Minister of State for Industry, Trade, and Investment, Amb. Mariam Katagum, has decried the lack of investment in the creative, culture and tourism sectors despite the potentials of the sectors.

Katagum noted this during the 2nd Edition of the 2-day investment drive Enjoy Nigeria expo (ENEX 2022) in Abuja.

The Minister said part of the federal government’s plan is to build a platform for investment in Nigeria’s “multibillion-dollar creative entertainment, cultural, and tourism industries.”

She said her administration is determined to strengthening public-private partnerships in important sectors like as entertainment and tourism to boost the country’s GDP, which is heavily reliant on the oil sector.

“This is consistent with the federal government’s objective to diversify the economy,” she said.

The Head of Department of Investment Promotion, Mrs. Gertrude Orji, who represented the Minister said the federal government will continue to protect investors and their investments while maintaining the required ease of doing business in critical non-oil industries.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Trade, and Investment, Dr. Evelyn Ngige, in her welcome address, insisted that the current administration’s drive and insistence on promoting local content.
