The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has called on corps members to respect local customs, remain committed to their duties, and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s socio-economic growth.

Nafiu gave the advice while addressing the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream One corps members at the NYSC orientation camps in Ogun and Oyo states, according to a statement shared on the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters 𝕏 handle on Saturday.

He commended the corps members for answering the call to serve the country and encouraged them to approach their service year with discipline, creativity and a strong sense of responsibility.

He also stressed the importance of managing personal finances wisely, noting that sound financial habits could provide support both during and after the service year.

The NYSC boss further urged participants to uphold good conduct in their host communities and workplaces.

“When you are posted to your place of primary assignment, respect their rules, be punctual, be resourceful and learn the culture of the organisation you are posted to,” Nafiu said.

At the Ogun State orientation camp, the NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Olayinka Nasamu, reported that 3,341 corps members had been registered, including 975 initially deployed to Lagos State.

She praised their conduct, saying they had “conducted themselves responsibly and adapted to the regimented camp life,” while adding that “all camp officials are also performing their duties diligently with high sense of synergy.”

In Oyo State, the NYSC Coordinator, Mr Kayode Ola Peters, disclosed that 3,068 corps members had completed registration. He noted that participants had displayed commendable character, actively participated in camp activities, and shown readiness to contribute to national development across various sectors.

The NYSC had earlier announced that the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream I Orientation Course began nationwide on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, across all 37 orientation camps.

“Camp Registration for all Corps Members will take place from Wednesday, 21st to midnight of Friday, 23rd, January, 2026,” he said.

The Swearing-in Ceremony was held on Friday, January 23, 2026, while the Closing Ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
