Oyo 2027: Adebowale Ogundoyin joins governorship race

The Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebowale Ogundoyin, while declaring his governorship ambition

The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebowale Ogundoyin, has declared that he is the most suitable candidate to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde in the 2027 governorship election.

Truthng reports that Ogundoyin made the declaration on Tuesday while meeting with prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders and stakeholders from Ibadan at the party’s secretariat in the state capital.

The meeting was attended by several PDP chieftains, including the Deputy Chairman of the party in Oyo State, Wasiu Adeleke, Chief Nureni Akanbi, Chief Ismaila Ashipa, Remi Ayoade, the PDP South-West Women Leader, Alhaja Modinat Adedibu, and the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Toyin Balogun.

Ogundoyin, who represents Ibarapa East State Constituency in the state assembly, was accompanied by leaders and stakeholders from the Ibarapa geopolitical zone.

Among those present were the lawmaker representing Ibarapa North/Central Federal Constituency, Hon. Peter Ojedokun, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Ademola Ojo, former House of Representatives member Yemi Taiwo, and former commissioners Moses Ojoawo, Funmilayo Orisadeyi, and Alhaji Majekodunmi Aborode.

Addressing the gathering, Ogundoyin said he possesses the experience and leadership capacity required to lead the state after Makinde’s tenure ends in 2027.

He emphasised the importance of continuity, innovation, and collective responsibility in sustaining the achievements of the current administration.

Ogundoyin also appealed to party leaders in Ibadanland to support his governorship ambition.

“I have come to consult, to listen, and to seek your support as critical stakeholders of our great party,” he said.

The Speaker added that his ambition is rooted in service, capacity, and a proven leadership track record, promising to build on the developmental strides recorded under Makinde’s leadership.

“Together, we can build on the progress already achieved by our amiable governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and take Oyo State to greater heights,” he said.
