Tension: Bandits kidnap 4-day-old twins, 19 others in Zamfara

In another tense incident, no fewer than 20 people were kidnapped in Daura town in Zurmi local government area of Zamfara state, a day after the Commissioner for Information said security in the state has improved.

A resident of the town identified as Malam Haruna Ahmad Dauran in an interview with a resident in the state via telephone call has said bandits invaded the town at around 8:30 am Saturday and began house- to -house searching and abducted people.

Malam Haruna stated that the bandits attempted to attack worshipers inside a Mosque but the worshipers escaped during the attack.

He added that majority of the victims were married women.

“As I am talking to you now, ninety percent of the kidnapped victims were women including four- day- old twins and their mother,” he said.

He further stated that the bandits attacked Baichin Dauran village during the attack.

“When the community of Baichin Dauran village are preparing for burial of a person in the morning, the bandits intercepted them along the main cemetery and began searching them. They seized all their cell phones and undisclosed amount.”

Malam Haruna appealed to federal and Zamfara state government to come to their aide and stop playing politics on issue of security.

“Why I am calling on Zamfara state government to stop playing politics on security issue is that the government through the state Commissioner of Information, Ibrahim Dosara, released a statement that the security situation in the state has improved, which is not true,” he said.

Efforts to get response from the state police command spokesperson failed.
