Troops repel terror attacks on Kainji, Kaduna, kill 15

The military at the weekend repelled Boko Haram attack on its barracks in New Bussa, Borgu local government of Niger state, killing eight members of the insurgents in the battle.

The Boko Haram criminals were said to have launched the attack on the military barracks in an attempt to free its members in custody.

Our correspondent learnt that three of the armed men were apprehended by the soldiers while some of the military sustained minor injuries during the gun duel.

According to source, “the attack occurred on Saturday around 12 o’clock midnight while attempting to gain entrance into the Army Barracks to rescue their members in captivity.”

It was gathered that the soldiers gave the insurgents superior fire power with reinforcement from the Air Force Base in the area to successfully repel the Boko Haram members who came in large numbers.

It was also learnt that some of the criminals sustained various degrees of injuries and that the soldiers had tightened up security around the barracks to counter unexpected reprisal attack.

In a related development, troops of Operation Forest Sanity of the Nigerian Army, have killed no fewer than seven terrorists and recovered arms and ammunition in Kaduna state

This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the spokesperson of the Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu.

Nwachukwu stated that four terrorists were killed during operations by the troops in Maidaro, Kagi Hill, Kusharki, and Anguwan Madaki in Birnin Gwari local government area of Kaduna state, adding that two AK 47 rifles with two rounds of 7.62mm Special, one automatic pump action gun with three cartridges, six dane guns, three locally fabricated pistols with one 9mm round and four motorcycles were recovered from the gunmen.

Nwachukwu noted that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya, has commended the troops for their gallantry and urged them not to relent until terrorism and other criminalities are brought to an end in the North-West region.
