The African Centre for Leadership, Strategy & Development (Centre LSD) is co-hosting a town hall meeting with the Bayelsa State Government through the Ministry of Environment, in collaboration with Kebetkache Women Development & Resource Centre and Mac-Jim Foundation.
The focus of the meeting is the implementation of the Host Communities’ provisions in the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) in Bayelsa State.
The two-day town hall meeting, taking place on September 13 and 14, 2024, in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, aims to deepen understanding of the Host Communities’ provisions in the PIA, foster stakeholders’ understanding of their roles, and address concerns related to the implementation of the Act in oil and gas-producing communities.
A statement released by Vincent Dania, Programme Coordinator at Centre LSD, noted that the Town Hall Meeting will feature officials from the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, the Ministry of Justice, leaders of Host Community Development Trusts (HCDTs), and other key stakeholders.
The event will provide a platform for learning, sharing experiences, seeking clarification, and strengthening relationships for peace and the sustainable development of oil and gas-producing communities in the Niger Delta.
