A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, sentenced a 33-year old man, Salisu Abubakar, to 8 months imprisonment for stealing wrappers worth N830,000.
The Magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Emmanuel, however gave the convict, a resident of of Liberia Road Malali, Kaduna, an option of N50,000 fine.
Emmanuel warned Abubakar to desist from committing crimes, and ordered the return of the stolen wrappers to the owner.
Earlier, the convict had pleaded guilty to the charge preferred against him.
Following the guilty plea, the Prosecutor, Inspector Chidi Leo, urged the court to try him summarily under Section 286 sub 2 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.
The prosecutor had told the court Abubakar committed the offences on April 18 at Ungwan Rimi Road, Kaduna.
Leo said that Abubakar and two others now at large, broke into a shop belonging to the complainant, Rabiu Nasir and stole wrappers and lace fabrics valued N830,000.
He said Abubakar was caught with the stolen items while the others ran away.
