Anambra

Two men, Chukwuebuka  Nwaebube, and Abiodun Emmanuel, on Wednesday appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing items valued at N1.3 million.

The defendants, Nwaebube, 24, and Emmanuel, 24, whose addresses were not provided, are facing a three-count charge bordering on stealing.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendants conspired and committed the offences on April 16, at the back of Ibereko Town Hall in Badagry, Lagos.

He alleged that the defendants broke into the complainant’s room, one Mustapha Muhammed, and stole items worth N1.3 million
Ekpo said the items stolen were a bag containing N900,000 cash, a Samsung phone valued at N400,000, and a Moniepoint POS machine of unknown value.

“They were arrested by some security men and handed over to the police for interrogation and prosecution,” he said.

The offences contravene Sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N1 million each with two sureties each in like sum.

Layeni adjourned the case until July 10 for mention.
