The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has reaffirmed its commitment to improving healthcare delivery across the FCT.
The assurance is contained in a communique issued at the end of a two-day 2025 health sector joint annual review and performance dialogue held recently in Abuja.
The communique was signed by Dr Ahmadu Abubakar, Acting Director-General, Health Management Board (HMB) and Acting Director, Public Health Department of the FCTA, on-behalf Dr Adedolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary, Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES).
According to Fasawe, the review brought together government agencies, development partners, traditional leaders, and civil society organisations.
He said that the meeting was held to review the sector’s progress and challenges in line with the National Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII).
He added that the highlight of the review include improvement on maternal and child health indicators, expanded immunisation coverage, reduced HIV incidence, strengthened malaria response, and increased health insurance enrolment.
The mandate secretary disclosed that the FCT also established a Health Workforce Registry and developed a five-year Human Resource Recruitment Plan (2025–2029).
He said that stakeholders identified key challenges like inadequate human resources, limited funding, weak data reporting from private facilities, and delay in the passage of essential health bills.
Fasawe said that stakeholders resolved to fully implement the Primary Health Care under One Roof (PHCUOR) policy; create budget lines for core health programmes; pass the FCT Health Insurance (FHIS) and PHERMRA establishment bills.
He further said that stakeholders agreed to establish an infectious disease hospital and revitalise the FCT Molecular Laboratory.
He added that a 15 per cent minimum budget allocation to health in line with the Abuja Declaration was also advocated.
According to him, the communique was adopted and endorsed by stakeholders and the Ona of Abaji.
