The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) North and Western region on Thursday visited inmates of the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kuje, FCT to preach hope and donated essential items
The visit was led by Joseph Adeyokunnu, RCCG Intercontinental Finance Controller and Pastor in Charge of Region 31, Overcomers Assembly, Lagos.
The theme of the outreach is “The Not for Profit Accountants as a Mission-driven Advisor “Expanding beyond compliance Christian Social Responsibility in pursuit of RCCG Vision 2032
Adeyokunnu said the outreach was in line with the Christian mandate of showing love and compassion to those in confinement and reminding them that redemption and a better life are possible beyond the walls of incarceration.
He said that the visit was not only to preach but also to identify with the inmates and offer both spiritual and material support.
He said that Christ admonished Christians to show love by reaching out to those in prison and showing love to the less privileged
“There are blessings for doing so and punishments for failing to do so according to Mathew 25:35-46.
“We have brought them the message of hope to reach out to all these people telling them there is hope for the hopeless.”
The Pastor explained that the book of Luke 1:37 said that “With God nothing shall be impossible” so there is hope for the inmates.
He urged them to draw nearer to God
“God’s call according to James 4:8 and if they come to Him and put their hope in Him He would set them free and they would fulfil their destiny.
“We will be doing a lot of good to our nation if we come to places like this, to encourage people, to let them know there is hope for them, to support them, to make it a real correctional place, not a place of confinement, to make life easy for them,” he said.
Speaking on the challenges facing Nigerians, Adeyokunnu, said that although the government was trying its best, things were still difficult.
He called on the government to do more especially in reaching out to the less-privileged.
He also appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to reach out to the less privileged.
